The “Musikwohnhaus Basel” combines living and working. It was established as a result of an in-depth investigation into the often challenging conditions that musicians and artists face in terms of work and residence. It was planned and build by the “Stiftung Habitat” (Foundation Habitat).
Apartments
Four apartments offer visiting musicians and creative artists the space for an effective working sojourn at the “Musikerwohnhaus Basel”. The infrastructure of the building was designed with the artist in mind. A canteen, located centrally in the courtyard, a recording studio and three rehearsal spaces are available upon request. The minimum duration of a sojourn in one of the apartments is one week. Visits of shorter duration are possible on special request and depend on the availability.
Furnishing:
The fully furnished one-bedroom apartments are sound proof and equipped with a kitchenette and an en-suite bathroom. High speed internet access is provided. The beds measure 1.4x2.0m (tbd). Sufficient storage space is available for luggage, instruments or other equipment. The apartments are serviced once a week, including the change of bed sheets and linen.
Infrastructure:
The guest apartments were designed with the special needs of musicians in mind and are intended for work and practice. In addition, two larger rehearsal rooms are available upon request. The “Weisser Saal” may also be used for rehearsals and further activities beyond its recording functionality. The residential building features an urban garden where tenants may pick herbs and tea leaves as they wish. In addition to the kitchenette of the apartment, tenants can have a meal from the in-house canteen that offers freshly prepared meals on Wednesdays and Thursdays (11:30h – 14:00h). A laundry room is available to all tenants.

For individuals, bands, ensembles and projects with limited financial resources
1 - 3 nights:
Standard Rate CHF 100.-
Culture Rate CHF 70.-
4 - 7 nights:
Standard Rate CHF 80.-
Culture Rate CHF 60.-
For stays exceeding 7 nights, every additional night costs CHF 50 (standard rate) / CHF 30 (culture rate)
Monthly rentals:
Standard Rate CHF 1250.-
Culture Rate CHF 900.-
The tourist tax (CHF 4.- per person / per night, applicable for the first 30 nights) is not included in above rates. It includes a Baselcard for the duration of the stay up to a maximum of 30 days. The Baselcard allows for free public transport within in the city perimeter.
For visitors staying for three to four weeks a flat rate of CHF 1'250.- (Standard Rate) or CHF 900.- (Culture Rate) respectively will be applied.
For tenants whose stay exceeds one month, a weekly rate of CHF 320.- (Standard Rate) or CHF 220.- (Culture Rate) respectively will be charged.
If the apartment is occupied by two or more people, an additional charge of CHF 30.- per night applies for the first 7 nights. From the 8th night onward, this additional charge will no longer apply.
Bed linen, towels and the final cleaning upon departure are included in the rent. If a tenant stays longer than 7 nights, the apartment will be cleaned and the linen will be changed weekly .
